2008 J.L. Wolf, Grauburgunder 2008 Pfalz 16

Firm and relatively rich on the nose. Confident. Well balanced.

2008 J.L. Wolf, Wachenheimer Riesling 2008 Pfalz 16

Juicy fruit and attractive fruit and fat with a dry finish. Pretty good value entrée to dry Riesling style.

2008 J.L. Wolf, Wachenheimer Belz Riesling Spätiese 2008 Pfalz 16.5

Sandstone. Very convincingly terroirs nose at a good price. Expressively floral nose. Transparent and zesty. Great balance and no bitterness or heat.

2008 J.L. Wolf, Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling Spätiese 2008 Pfalz 16.5+

Light nose, readable. Easy and frank. Definitely communicating something. Long.

2007 J.L. Wolf, Grauburgunder, Pfalz, Germany

Bordeaux bottle, Alsace grape variety. Yes, it must be German — and almost inevitably from the apparently indefatigable and age‐defying Ernst (call me Erni) Loosen; from his Pfalz range, but not his J.L. Wolf estate. The nose is fresh and snappy with a burst of spiced apricot and the palate combines zesty lime juice and ripe apricot with a light creamy texture and fine acidity. Off-dry, rather than bone dry. Ideal as an aperitif, but a useful match for light spices, too — and would bridge the gulf between drinkers of neutral Italian Pinot Grigio and fans of full‐on New Zealand Sauvignon.

2008 J.L. Wolf, Grauburgunder, Germany

Lovely, peachy fruit flavour with a creamy texture. Great with smoked fish — especially haddock — and chicken salad and creamy pastas.

2007 J.L. Wolf, Grauburgunder, Germany

Although not normally associated with Germany, this ultra‐rich example is made by the famous Ernst Loosen who is undoubtedly one of the very top winemakers in the country. Soft, rich and off dry whilst still being delightfully crisp and refreshing.

Decanter, Steven Spurrier, July 2009

2007 J.L. Wolf, Grauburgunder, Pfalz, Germany

Fresh pear and white peach nose, ripe and creamy on the palate with lifted spice. Just off‐dry but with good acidity, this is a great wine for the warmer weather, enjoyed with or without food.

Stephen Tanzer’s INTERNATIONAL WINE CELLAR

J.L. Wolf Wines Vintage 2006

“After having made better wines in 2005 than in 2004, Ernie Loosen has pulled another two rabbits out of his hat in 2006, confirming my predictions from last year. He may not yet be consistent across the full range, but given the owner's reputation on the Mosel and the excellent sites he owns here, this estate is now able to compete with anyone in the Pfalz.”

2004 J.L. Wolf Riesling Spätlese Pfalz Forster Pechstein

“Plump and spicy, featuring grapefruit, white pepper and peach flavors. It’s intense and attractive at once, with a lingering peppery aftertaste.”

89 POINTS

2005 J.L. Wolf Riesling Spätlese Forster Pechstein

“A grapefruit‐infused white. Lush, yet backed by a firm structure. Shows more up front than on the finish, so give it time to integrate.”

93 POINTS

2004 J.L. Wolf Forster Pechstein Riesling Spätlese

“Although this is labeled Spätlese, it’s quite dry, coming in at only 18 grams per liter of residual sugar. The aromas are reminiscent of Chablis, with notes of sweet corn, ripe apple and flint. On the palate it’s full in body, showing a lovely clarity of flavor and a powerfully earthy note of soil. It continues to gain in complexity and depth as it sits in the glass, building to a long and refined finish.”

92 POINTS

2005 J.L. Wolf Wachenheimer Belz Riesling Spätlese

“In this vintage, this wine seems to be singing. Its minerality is prominent under the luscious depth of ripe mango and tangerine fruit, and a taut spine of acidity keeps it brisk all the way through a long finish.”

91 POINTS

2006 J.L. Wolf Wachenheimer Riesling

“Dark and intense, this wine’s plum and apricot flavors are driven by the vivid notes of wet stone and spicy earth. It’s assertive, demonstrating a strong character of place.”
